What a monthly report looks like when it is a file.

A complete monthly report for Muster AG, an invented services firm of eighteen people. One HTML file: it opens in any browser, needs no licence, calls nothing and prints to PDF. This is exactly how a report reaches you at the end of the chain.

  • One HTML file, no outside request
  • Example data, invented
  • Prints to PDF
  • DE · FR · EN inside the file

What is inside

Seven sections, one page.

Cover
One sentence on the month, the whole year as a revenue curve with a forecast to December, the three numbers that count. Every month can be tapped.
What matters
Three cards with their trend: where the month stands, what deviates, what to do. The machine writes the draft, a person has read it.
Income statement
Month and year to date, actual against budget. Below it, the path from revenue to result and the cost structure with the EBIT margin.
Outlook
Operating result cumulated since January, budget beside it, forecast with a range to year end.
Liquidity
Bank balance at each month end and thirteen weeks ahead: payroll runs, floor, lowest point.
Debtors
Ageing across the months, each customer's payment behaviour learnt from paid invoices, the largest open items.
Findings, check protocol, trail
What the machine noticed while reading the bookings and what a person decided about it. The five checks before approval. The path from export to signature.

How it is made

Four steps, the same every month.

The report is the end of the chain. What comes before it happens without manual work, but not without control.

01

Export

The ERP exports bookings, debtors and balances as before. Nothing changes in the ERP.

02

Prepare and check

The figures are checked against budget, bank statement and VAT. Every check lands in the protocol, even one that passes with a remark.

03

Write the report

Tables, charts and the summary come from the checked figures. The draft summary is read before it counts.

04

Approval

A person approves. Only then does the file go to management, with status, date and source in its header.

What it is not

No customer, no real figures.

Muster AG does not exist. All amounts, debtors and remarks are invented, and the file says so in its header and footer. The page shows the form and scope of a report, not a customer project.

Whether a report as a file or a dashboard behind a login is right for you depends on six questions, not on the tool. The article asks them.
